Carjacking Suspect Tyrell Brown Apprehended, Faces Murder Charge
After a two-day manhunt, cops nabbed Tyrell Brown on Tuesday, the suspect in a carjacking that later led to a police chase and shots fired by officers on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.
Brown, 25, of Staten Island was arrested while donning a women’s wig to disguise himself while police escalated their search.
SILive reports:
The intense manhunt for Brown came to a close at about 10 p.m Tuesday night, after patrol officers from the 120th Precinct caught Brown on Mosel and Osgood avenues, not far from the Park Hill Apartments, multiple police sources said.
An eagle-eyed civilian saw through his disguise Tuesday night, and flagged down a patrol car from the 120th Precinct, an NYPD spokeswoman told the Advance.
Brown was arrested after a short chase, those sources said.
In addition to robbery and criminal possession of stolen property, Brown has been charged with the murder of Kuwan Collins of Staten Island. Collins was shot in the head.
Police are investigating Brown’s possible connection to another murder, in which Devin Powell was found fatally shot just a few blocks away from where the black 2006 Hummer was carjacked at gunpoint.
The paper also notes charges of attempted robbery for another carjacking, committed by a man wearing a wig not long before Brown’s apprehension.
