Cafe Sant Edesia is now open at 179 5th Avenue, nearly two months after Caramello suddenly closed and noted they’d be reopening with big changes.

The biggest change, really, is that the delicious gelato that Caramello owner Nicoletta Grippo had prepared with fresh ingredients on site may be no more. Here’s Park Slope notes that she’s not associated with the new space, and you can see upon walking in that the large freezer case that held the gelato has been removed, with a large communal table in its place. They said they will still have some gelato, though not as large a selection, and it’s not available just yet.

They do still have a lot of tempting pastries and sweets, and they’ve still got a selection of sandwiches and salads if you’re looking for something a little more substantial, plus all kinds of coffee. And with the free wi-fi and the additional seating, the new Cafe Sant Edesia could be another good option for local freelancers on a street with several.
