Car Injures Pedestrian At 4th Avenue And 17th Street Saturday

It was not a good weekend for NYC pedestrians. Between Saturday and Sunday, four separate accidents resulted in two pedestrian deaths and three injuries, according to a CBS New York report.

One of the accidents occurred on 4th Avenue and 17th Street around 10:40pm Saturday. FDNY tells us that the 45-year-old victim, whose condition is unknown, was taken to Lutheran Hospital for her injuries. The driver remained at the scene.

Fourth Avenue, recognized as one of the most dangerous pedestrian roads in the city, received a safety upgrade in September 2012 for the swath between 15th and 65th Streets. The measures enlarged medians, limited left-hand turns, and cut the avenue from three lanes to two. Similar traffic calming measures were recently approved by Community Board 6 for the area between 14th Street and Atlantic Avenue.
