About 15 firefighters rushed to extinguish flames shooting from a vehicle at Stratford Road, between Ditmas Avenue and Dorchester Road, just after 9am this morning, neighbor Vita Beylina told us.
After being awoken by the sound of tires spinning, Vita said she saw the driver attempting to move from a patch of ice for about 20 minutes, after which she said the vehicle burst into flames. The neighbor immediately called 911 after seeing the flames first emanate from the car around 9am.
The car’s owner, fortunately, was alright but his car was most certainly not.
When we spoke to the FDNY today, they told us that firefighters respond to at least four car fires every day during the winter, and the spokesman noted that drivers should stray from revving their engines, as the constant friction can cause the vehicle to overheat.

And many thanks to Vita for sending us the above video and photo.
