Car Burned Out on Lefferts Place and Grand Avenue
A car caught on fire this afternoon on Lefferts Place between Classon Avenue and Grand Avenue.
The New York City Fire Department responded to a report about a smoking vehicle at 3:30 p.m. The car had been parked either on top of, or very near, a manhole, according to the FDNY. Firefighters finished putting out the fire at 5:30 p.m, and contacted ConEdison, who took over the scene.
The fire may have been started by an interaction between road salt and an electrical transform, said William Laviano, who talked to FDNY and ConEd workers at the scene.
ConEd was not immediately available for comment.
