Car & Bike Stolen Last Night On E 18th Street Near Cortelyou
Sometime between 11pm last night and 5am this morning, a car and bike were stolen from E 18th Street between Cortelyou and Dorchester Avenues. A neighbor writes:
Brand new 2013 gray Subaru Outback with NY plate GFL9501 and custom built red and orange Fuji fixed gear bicycle. Seeing if anyone might have info, heard glass breaking/car alarm, etc. Keeping an eye out for someone attempting to re-sell the bike also (worth about $1300).
She says the police responded within 20 minutes, but didn’t have much hope for recovering the stolen property. A security camera on E 18th would normally have captured images of the theft, but its cord was cut a few days ago.
We have reached out to the 70th Precinct, and will let you know when we have more information. In the meantime, neighbors are encouraged to register their bicycles with the precinct, and to call 911 immediately if you see suspicious activity that may be a break-in or theft in progress.
