Buttermilk Bakeshop Coming To 7th Avenue In February
We’ve got more sweet treats coming to 7th Avenue. Buttermilk Bakeshop is scheduled to open in the old Tasti D-Lite location at 339 7th Avenue, between 9th and 10th Streets, this February.
Owned by pastry chef and Prospect Park Southwest neighbor, Katie Rosenhouse, the bakery will feature “cakes (cranberry carrot cake will be a specialty), cookies, chocolate truffles, six rotating varieties of homemade ice cream, whoopie pies, French macarons, madeleines, rugelach, caramels, and more,” according to Here’s Park Slope, who first reported the opening.
What are some of the chef’s favorites, though?
“Everything,” laughed Katie, when we spoke to her on Wednesday. “Cookies, cupcakes, ice cream, and candies.
“We’ve got a good variety,” she continued, “and are hoping that everyone will be able to find a favorite.”
Katie moved to the neighborhood almost one year ago, and when it came time to settle on a bakery location, the charms of the Slope kept pulling her back to this area.
“I was definitely looking all over,” she told us, “but living here, and knowing how cute it is, it was hard to look anywhere else.”
Katie began working in a bakery when she was still a kid, and always imagined herself as a purveyor of sweets.
“My dream was to open an ice cream store,” said Katie. “Actually, I think it was my parents dream. They always wanted to open one, but never did.
“We lived in New Jersey, but used to come into the city and go to Serendipity,” she continued. “It was always so magical, and I just thought how great that would be.”
In addition to an impressive history at some of the city’s finest restaurants, including Le Cirque, Bouley, Country, The Russian Tea Room, and the David Burke restaurant group, Katie has been featured on The Food Network’s Chopped, and Sweet Genius, where she was awarded a $10,000 prize.
We can’t wait to see what she’s got in store for us! Welcome to the neighborhood, Buttermilk Bakeshop.
