The burned remains of a human body were uncovered this morning in Marine Park, after firefighters responded to the scene of a trash fire.

Authorities made the discovery at approximately 4:00 a.m. today, when they went to put out a burning pile of garbage on Hendrickson Street and Avenue U.

The body is believed to be a white male and had been lying on top of boxes. It is unclear if the man was homeless and had been burned while trying to keep warm, or if he had been deliberately set on fire. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

The Daily News notes that the area – the side of a Furniture Zone – often attracts homeless people.
