Man Dies Days After Fight Outside Brownsville Bodega
BROWNSVILLE – After a man died in the hospital following an assault in Brownsville, police are asking for the public’s help in identifying those responsible.
On Tuesday, August 21, police responded to a call of a man assaulted outside of the Mucho Loco Deli Grocery at 441 Sutter Avenue, at the corner with Junius Street, around 3:45 am.
A fight had broken out on the corner, police said, in which an unidentified suspected punched the 53-year old victim in the face as he stood on the corner, knocking him to the ground. The victim struck his head as he fell, fracturing his skull on the pavement, police said.
As the man lay unconscious with a fractured skull, a woman rummaged through his pockets before fleeing with the suspect who assaulted the man.
Police found the victim unconscious and unresponsive and EMS transported him to Brookdale Hospital. Clinging to life for two days, the man finally succumbed to his injuries and died on Thursday, August 23, said police.
Pending family notification, the identity of the deceased has not been released. An investigation into the death is underway, but no arrests have been made so far. Surveillance photos of the suspects can be seen below:
