Brooklynite Neal Wins Bronze

Saturday night, Brooklyn swimmer and only second African-American woman to make a U.S. Olympic swim team Lia Neal helped the U.S. win Bronze in the 4x100m Freestyle Relay. From the New York Times:

Neal and her teammates — Missy Franklin, Jessica Hardy and Allison Schmitt — took the bronze in 3 minutes 34.24 seconds, finishing behind Australia (3:33.15) and the Netherlands (3:33.79).
“Everything was just so beyond my expectations,” Neal said.

Congratulations to Lia, the rest of the U.S. team, and to all of Brooklyn. Maybe she’s from Fort Greene and not Flatbush, but we’re still bursting!

Sadly, I missed the race. Anyone catch it, maybe at Sycamore or elsewhere in the neighborhood?

Also remember, for the first time, NBC is streaming all of the events on nbcolympics.com for free if you’ve got a cable subscription. I’ve peeked in on a little fencing, table tennis, and archery already.

If you’ve got a favorite from the “less popular” sports you think we should all be checking out, let us know in the comments.
