Brooklyn Bike Patrol Planning Return And Calling For Volunteers
One week after suffering two heart attacks and making the difficult decision to disband his Brooklyn Bike Patrol, founder Jay Ruiz announced that, although it might take some time, the two-wheeled crusaders will return.
“The bottom line is that we won’t be closed forever,” Jay explained in an interview with Patch. “The Brooklyn Bike Patrol will rise again and we’ll be stronger than ever.”
“Even with a damaged heart,” he added, “I have more heart than anyone I know. I have never been a quitter and I will be back.”
Although there is still no word on when the Patrol will return, the group is already pushing forward and looking for new volunteers.
When we come back, we will need more volunteers to walk people home. Please message us on FB if you live in Brooklyn, have your own bike, have no police record and are willing to volunteer at least one weekend night every other week.
Please like and share this status to ensure that the most people possible see this. The Brooklyn Bike Patrol is going to come back, but we can only do it if we all work together.
We’ll be sure to keep you posted as to when the Brooklyn Bike Patrol is back up and running, but in the meantime, keep sending those well-wishes to Jay as he continues his recovery.
