Brooklyn Bike Patrol Off Duty Saturday, October 27

The Brooklyn Bike Patrol will be taking a much needed break this Saturday to celebrate Halloween with family and friends. There are a number of holiday events going on this weekend, so we thought it was time to review some safety tips if you will be walking alone at night.

First, always make sure someone knows where you are going. Try to keep to a well-lit and populated area. If you must walk down a dark, vacant street (such as a residential street) remain aware of your surroundings. Do not listen to your iPod or talk on your phone. Do not flash valuables such as jewelry or electronic devices around. Walk with purpose and, most importantly, go with your gut. If a situation feels dangerous, it probably is.

The BBP will also be off duty Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. For more information on the group’s services, visit their website or call 718-744-7592.
