Brighton Beauty Supply closed down its 1724 Sheepshead Bay Road location this week, citing continued losses since Superstorm Sandy.

The business shuttered the storefront on March 15 after approximately seven years in business, according to a manager with the company.

“It’s not recovered, this area. It’s not making money,” said Victoria, a manager who gave only her first name. “It’s not like it was before Sandy.”

Like every ground-level business on Sheepshead Bay Road, the storefront was slammed with several feet of water during the October 29, 2012, hurricane. Though they rebuilt, customers still haven’t come back nearly two and a half years later.

Brighton Beauty Supply continues to operate a flagship location at 419 Brighton Beach Avenue. Victoria said that though it, too, was affected by the storm, that location is seeing a rebound.

“Brighton Beach is still seeing [the effects of the storm]. We lost money here, but we can recover. But Sheepshead Bay? No. We put lots of money into it after Sandy and it’s just not coming back,” she said.

Another Brighton Beauty Supply location at 1305 Kings Highway also recently shuttered, she said.
