Briefly Noted: Carlos Danger Released, 50 Cent Calls Sunset Park Officer “Dirty Cop” and More Links

Disgraced former New York Congressman, Anthony Weiner, has been released from federal prison and will serve out the remainder of his sentence at a halfway house in Brooklyn. Weiner is serving time for engaging in “obscene communications” with a teenage girl. Weiner has a history of sending lewd messages and photos of himself to women, often using the alias “Carlos Danger.” He will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life according to the New York Times. The Commanding Officer of the 72nd Precinct in Sunset Park is under investigation after the NYPD veteran reportedly told officers to shoot rapper 50 Cent “on sight” during a roll call at the station last June. Emanuel Gonzalez filed an aggravated harassment complaint last year claiming 50 Cent threatened him on Instagram after the officer was accused of “shaking down” the owner of the club Love and Lust which the rapper frequented. 50 Cent has responded by calling Gonzalez a “dirty cop.” [New York Daily News]

A three-alarm fire tore through a three-story building on Greene Avenue in Clinton Hill early Monday morning. Officials say that the flames started at approximately 4:30am in the ground-level pizza and dry cleaning shops before spreading up to the residences on the second and third stories. No injuries were reported. The FDNY had the fire under control by 6am. [CBS New York]

Bed-Stuy’s The Moore Bar & Lounge, or Club Langston, is fighting to stay open. The business’ owner, Calvin Clark, says that it is the last black-owned LGBTQ club in NYC. Opened in 2001, the club shuttered in December and faces permanent closure unless Clark can raise $73K by March 1 to cover increased rent, taxes, and other expenses. Along with launching a GoFundMe campaign, Clark staged a ten-day silent protest/hunger strike in front of the Atlantic Avenue venue. The fundraiser has collected just over $10K of its goal. A woman walking in East New York this morning made a grisly discovery—a 20-week-old fetus. “EMS pronounced the unborn baby dead at the scene,” according to the New York Post. The fetus was found steps away from Linden Park and George Gershwin Junior High. A bag of bloodied clothing was also discovered near the scene.
