October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and an important event is coming to Prospect Park to raise funds and involve the community.

The Making Strides of Brooklyn Walk fundraising event will take place at the Nethermead in Prospect Park on Sunday, October 16 at 10am.

According to the participant website, “the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks are the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting nearly 300 communities with a shared determination to finish the fight.”

It’s not too late to sign up. You can register here and also find out more information about the event by contacting Christina Hall and Janett Florindo at BrooklynNYStrides@cancer.org or 800-227-2345.

Over $200,000 has already been raised for this event, but your help is certainly still needed. You can participate, volunteer, and donate.

The New York State Department of Health website provides information about cancer screening and prevention.

Local breast cancer screening and consultations are available as well. You can call 718-250-8708 for them to provide you with your nearest screening center.
