BREAKING: Truck Ripped Open After Hitting Tree On Ocean Pkwy

The northbound Ocean Parkway service road is closed between Avenue V and Avenue W, after an 18-wheel truck attempting to turn onto the road struck a tree, ripping open its haul.

The truck was turning from Avenue W onto Ocean Parkway’s service road and could not complete the turn. It seems the accident occurred shortly before noon.

Reader Allan Shweky sent in the above photo, showing the extent of the damage to the truck. Police are on the scene, and have closed the road.

Thanks, too, to Allan Rosen, who also tipped us off to the accident, and sent in a nearly identical photo.

UPDATE (1:50 p.m.): James W. just sent in a photo showing the truck from the front:

  1. good that it got stuck there. if it had gone further, it would damage the cars. the street is waaaay to narrow for that wide truck. i live on that block. the width of a regular car is 70″, this truck is 102″, almost 3 feet extra, and if the trailer would wobble a bit, there would have been a lot of damaged cars.

  2. The guy just lost his job, and will never ever get a truck job again. Truck are not allowed on ocean parkway

  3. Unless they are delivering goods trucks are not allowed. He was going for the service lane I think he had business being there.

  4. I never heard of an 18 wheeler making local deliveries. They are usually for long distance over the road travel.

  5.  As a retired Teamster Local & Road driver, I can’t tell you how many times I have pulled trailers through the streets of NYC, including our wonderful Sheepshead Bay, to make local deliveries. The problem is when you get a guy from Middle Armpit, USA that has no clue how to navigate tight city streets.

  6. YES. Seems the low branch is what was in the way.
I blame Bloomberg, neglect, not taking care of our greenery for the last decade. It is kinda’ a sick fun watching them play catch-up.
How do construction vehicles and sanitation trucks fit? I may be mistaken but I think even I could fit a Mac/Welbuilt down the service lane.

  7. There is an apartment building in the pic. I have seen buildings supply residents with new appliances. Not saying that is what was going on but there are exceptions.
Maybe the driver was just a dumb ass.
