A fire broke out in a three-story building on 18th Avenue near McDonald Avenue in Borough Park moments ago, engulfing the surrounding streets in thick smoke.

The above photo, from reader Eddie F., captures the smoke billowing down the street. It’s taken from East 3rd Street, looking west on 18th Avenue

Firefighters are en route to 4315 18th Avenue, the location of the fire. Witnesses say fire is visible through the windows.

UPDATE (12:21 p.m.): Our tipster tells us the smoke has dissipated. He’s unsure if anyone was rescued from the building, and notes that there’s still a heavy FDNY presence, and a chopper in the air.
