A man was shot on the street near the Barclays Center earlier this afternoon, sending pedestrians scattering and police rushing to the area.
An assailant fired gunshots near 620 Atlantic Ave and Flatbush Avenue at 2:14pm on Wednesday, June 14, said cops. A bullet hit an unidentified victim who cops describe as a black man in his 50s.
The shooting followed a dispute between two people, but the circumstances weren’t immediately clear, said cops.
The victim was rushed to Methodist Hospital where he remains in stable condition, authorities said.
Police released this video of a suspect, who they describe as a black man with a thin build, last seen wearing a blue baseball hat, a black shirt, and dark colored pants with a white stripe down the side.
Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). City Council Member Laurie Cumbo, whose district includes the Barclay’s Center, released this statement:
“In the midst of Gun Violence Awareness Month and one week after we took the Father’s Day pledge against violence, our community has been disrupted by dangerous individuals whose senseless behavior injured an unidentified man and endangered the lives of everyday New Yorkers. As a city, we stood united and will continue to combat against any form of violence that threatens public safety or stigmatizes our communities. Regardless of the motive behind this incident, gun violence is not the answer.”
This shooting comes amidst a day of gun violence nationwide, including a gunman who shot a congressman at a GOP baseball team practice in Virginia early this morning; and another gunman who shot three people before turning the gun on himself at a UPS facility in San Francisco, news outlets report.
