Police are investigating a death that was reported early Thursday morning near the waterfront at Brigham Street and Emmons Avenue.

The incident was called in at 5:45am and the deceased was found opposite the Lyghthouse Inn on 3206 Emmons Avenue, cops said.

A spokesman for the FDNY said the incident was first reported as an injury and later upgraded to a cardiac arrest. However, the victim was dead when authorities arrived at the scene. The deceased was transported to the Medical Examiner’s office.

The manager at the nearby Comfort Inn said he noticed one police car still parked on the street when he started his shift at 7:00am, a few hours after the incident was reported.

This tragedy follows several horrific deaths in the area in the last year. Last summer, a homeless man was crushed to death by a tow truck trying to park outside the Lyghthouse Inn.

Then, in October, two people were found dead in an apartment at 3030 Emmons Avenue, just down the street from the Lyghthouse Inn. Police said they found the toxic chemical cyanide on the table and suspected that the pair had committed suicide together.

The investigation into today’s death is ongoing. We’ll update this story as we learn more details.
