BREAKING: Female Shot Near Brighton 6th Street (Updated)
Sheepshead Bites received word that a shooting occurred on Brighton 5th Court near Brighton 6th Street, about a block away from William E. Grady High School.
Initial reports, pulled from police scanners, indicate that the victim is female. EMS is being rushed to the scene, and the NYPD is there setting up the crime scene.
The victim’s identity, condition and potential affiliation with the school is not yet known, nor is the status of the shooter. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30pm. 2:21pm.
The school has been placed on lock-down for students’ safety. The school was placed in lock down, but that has been lifted.
Sheepshead Bites is awaiting additional information from the NYPD.
Update (2:57pm): Officials at Grady High School confirmed to Sheepshead Bites that they did go into lock down at around 2:30pm. At approximately 2:45pm, the lock down ended.
“We do it out of precaution and the safety of our students,” said Assistant Principal Todd Gerber. “[The incident]
had nothing to do with our building.”School officials had no further information about the incident.
Update (3:05pm): The FDNY confirmed that they responded to a call for a shooting victim at 38 Brighton 5th Court.
The location is a pedestrian street lined with small bungalow homes between Brighton 5th Street and Brighton 6th Street. It’s about a block away from Grady High School.
The victim was taken to Lutheran Hospital with a gunshot wound. Her age, identity and condition are still unknown.
Update (3:40pm): The victim was a white female, age 34, who was shot once in the right arm. She is in stable condition and the investigation is ongoing, police confirmed.
Update (9:00pm): Councilman Chaim Deutsch issued the following statement in regards to the shooting:
“I am appalled by this tragic incident where an innocent bystander was shot in the arm. I am in contact with the NYPD and I am confident that they will apprehend those responsible. My prayers are with the victim and I wish her a full and speedy recovery. “
