Borough President Kicks Off Karaoke Contest For Seniors
Brooklyn Borough President and “karaoke enthusiast” Eric Adams kicked off the inaugural BK Sings Karaoke Platinum Edition on Tuesday at the United Senior Citizens Center in Sunset Park.
Adams is partnering with the New York City Department for the Aging to host the karaoke competition, inviting Brooklyn residents over the age of 60 to “show off your best voice” and “represent Brooklyn” in this borough-wide singing competition.

More than twenty senior centers across Brooklyn will participate in the contest which will culminate in two semi-final competitions (Thursday, Sept. 27 for North Brooklyn & Friday, Sept. 28 for South Brooklyn) and a finale on Thursday, October 4 at Brooklyn Borough Hall.
Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the best singers with a King or Queen of Karaoke being crowned at the Grand Finale event. All participants will receive a certificate of recognition from Brooklyn Borough Hall.
Adams hosted his first BK Sings Karaoke competition two years ago at dozens of bars throughout Brooklyn. With the Platinum Edition he hopes to encourage Brooklyn seniors to show off their singing skills while they complete an “age-friendly survey.”
Survey respondents will be able to rate quality-of-life issues in the borough on topics including health and housing. The data will be assessed by The New York Academy of Medicine and will help NYC agencies and community-based organizations determine how to “better allocate resources and services to make Brooklyn a great place to live, work, and play for older adults,” according to a release from Adams’ office.
Rules for the BK Sings Karaoke Platinum Edition competition include:
- entrants must be 60 years of age or older
- entrants must currently reside in Brooklyn
- professional singers are not allowed to compete
