Boody Students To Perform Annual Winter Concert Thursday
The students of David A. Boody Junior High School (I.S. 228) will put on their annual Winter Concert tomorrow evening.
The public is invited to see the young musicians perform at the David A. Boody Auditorium (228 Avenue S) on Thursday, January 22, 7pm. The concert will feature Boody’s jazz band, symphony orchestra, chorus, and symphonic band.
The concert, which is often sold-out with standing room only, will include performances of Defying Gravity, a Michael Jackson tribute, Happy, Polar Express, Barber of Seville, Le Jazz Hot, and Our Own Way, as well as many others.
“We have a 115-student Symphony Orchestra, 65-student symphonic band, 35-student Jazz band, and 100-student chorus performing at a high school level and beyond,” said Principal Dominick D’Angelo. “The Boody instrumental music and musical theater students are second to none. We have awesome music teachers, great students, and supportive parents who are committed to music achievement,”
The Winter Concert used to be held in December, but in aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, the David A. Boody building was shared with students of P.S. 288, whose Coney Island building had suffered severe damage. So the concert was moved to January – a tradition which continues two year later.
“Having it in January allows our families to enjoy the concert without the hustle and bustle of the holidays and allows past students to attend without conflicting holiday performance schedules,” said Heather Ann Fiorica, PTA President. “It’s really wonderful to see the high school kids return to Boody and tell us how their doing.”
Tickets are $7 for adults, $3 for students. There will be a PTA concession stand with drinks and snacks.
