Body of man found in mud in Shell Bank Creek

MARINE PARK – The body of a man in his 20’s or 30’s was found lying face down in the mud of Shell Bank Creek near the Salt Marsh Nature Center in Marine Park Brooklyn Saturday afternoon by Parks Police on routine patrol, police said.

The body, clothed in green pants only, was found in the mud among sea grass on Burnett Street adjacent to Avenue V at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Police from the 63rd Precinct arrived on the scene with EMS and members of the Gerritsen Beach Volunteer Fire Department and pronounced the man dead on the scene.

Officials say it appears the body had been in the water for at least a week.

The body was removed by Emergency Service cops and Gerritsen Beach volunteers and taken to the medical examiner’s office for further investigation and cause of death.

The person has not yet been identified, police say.
