Blue Apron Foods Changes Name To Hiller & Moon

Park Slope – Since 2002, Blue Apron Foods has sat near the corner of Union Street and 7th Avenue, offering gourmet specialties to its Park Slope neighbors including cheese, charcuterie, pastries, coffees, chocolates, and much more.

So it was surprising for passersby to see that the shop’s blue and white sign and awning had disappeared recently, replaced by a darker sign reading, “Hiller & Moon.”

Turns out Hiller and Moon are the maiden names of the shop owner Ted Matern’s grandmothers, John-Paul, an employee at the newly renamed store told BKLYNER Thursday evening.

Why the name change? First, the old Blue Apron Foods sign out front “broke,” John-Paul said. While going through the process of replacing the sign, Matern decided he wanted a more personal, family name for his shop, hence the homage to his grandmothers.

The new name has nothing to do with Blue Apron, the D-I-Y meal kit delivery service, though John-Paul added, “it’s nice to not get confused with them anymore.”

Shoppers can still expect to find all their favorite food items at Hiller & Moon, as a sign on the door reads, “Everything’s the same except the name,” and apparently the store’s phone number which also changed (see their new number below).
