Blaze Tears Through Synagogue Roof During Passover
A blaze interrupted overnight worshippers celebrating Passover at a synagogue in Seagate early this morning.
The fire sparked in the attic space at 12:14am on Thursday, April 13 at Congregation Kneses Israel of Seagate on Nautilus Avenue, said FDNY. The fire spread to a second-alarm before 1am but firefighters had the blaze under control by 2:30am.
There was one minor injury at the scene, but no one was transported to the hospital, said FDNY. A few religious artifacts were safely removed from the location.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Synagogue members and other Jewish neighbors are celebrating the Passover holiday, which began April 10 and continues through Tuesday, April 18. The holiday involves meals and services that last late into the night.
