Blaze Scorches First Floor Apartments Near Parade Grounds
A short-lived by smokey fire tore through the first floor of a four-story apartment building near Prospect Park on Saturday.
The flames sparked at 1 Parade Place at the corner of Parkside Avenue on Saturday, April 1. About 60 firefighters had the blaze under control by 4:30pm, said FDNY. “It was quick fire, maybe 5 to 10 minutes,” a witness told BKLYNER.
No injuries were reported, but the scene drew a large crowd on the street.
Firetrucks snaked around Parade Place between Prospect Park and the Parade Grounds as firefighters climbed in through the fire escape ladders.
Firefighters had shattered a few windows on the first floor, showing piles of scorched-looking furniture and household items through the jagged glass.
Residents filed out onto Parade Place as onlookers gawked from the opposite side of the street on Parkside Avenue.
“I heard it was a kitchen fire,” said one third-floor neighbor who was standing on the sidewalk. “But smoke filled the entire building.”
