Bite Of The Week: Pumpkin Whoopie Pies From Ivy Bakery At Root Hill
It’s that time of year where we want to eat pumpkin-everything, and thankfully for gourd fans like us, the new Ivy Bakery at Root Hill Cafe (262 4th Avenue) has all the answers.
On a recent visit, we had to decide between pumpkin muffins, sweet pumpkin pie and savory pumpkin pie, but it was the pumpkin whoopee pie ($3.75) that got our sweet tooth.
The tender, well-spiced cake was nicely matched to the cream cheese filling, making it all a bit reminiscent of a carrot cake. It is just the right amount of sweet, and the kind of fall-flavored treat that will hit the mark with cupcake fans who are looking for something a bit more portable — though, you’re not going to get far with this one, it might be gobbled up before you get out the door.
We got our pumpkin whoopie pie fix last year at Bklyn Larder, and can say that if you’ve had theirs and enjoyed it, you’ll love this one, too.
Had anything pumpkin-flavored in the neighborhood lately that you’d recommend? Let us know in the comments so we can try it before it’s gone!
