Ahhh, quiche! Following a not-great introductory experience with it in our younger years (the camp oven stopped working partway through baking and for some reason it was served anyway), we’ve always been slightly tentative about the savory pie-shaped treat–but today’s experience at Cammareri (1 South Elliott Place at Dekalb Avenue) was a far cry from our sad summer experience in the Poconos.

Their quiche ($8.50) is somehow fluffy and indulgently creamy at once, and comes served with a sizable side salad. Mayonnaise inside adds a nice tartness, and you wouldn’t believe how many tomato and zucchini slices fit in there. The crust is a little sweet and a lot of butter, and a subtle browning up top lends just the tiniest bit of crispy texture to something otherwise so incredibly silky. This stuff really melts in your mouth.

Cammareri is also great for, you know, people who’ve already had too much coffee and would prefer to sip a glass of wine while finishing up the workday–it’s quiet, the service is friendly, and you can use their WiFi for free for two hours (which we think is a reasonable limit).

Stop by in the afternoon to try the quiche–which rotates daily, so call ahead at 718-852-8582 if you’d like–seven days until 6pm Mondays and Tuesdays and 8:30pm the rest of the week.
