Bite Of The Day: Market Salad From Primrose Café

Bite Of The Day: Market Salad From Primrose Café
primrose cafe market salad

Because one can’t live on purely bacon-infused waffles and crepes filled with gooey cheese, we stopped by Primrose Café (147 Greene Avenue between Washington and Waverly) yesterday to get a sufficient amount of vegetables in our diet. Their abundant market salad ($10), one of two salads on a carefully curated menu, turned out to be just the ticket.

A combination of leafy greens, cherry tomatoes, red onions, strawberries, almonds, the market salad comes with a side of whole wheat toast and your choice of avocado or soft boiled egg. The onions and almonds are sliced beautifully thin, while the oh-so sweet strawberries and halved tomatoes offer a bit more to bite into. Just a touch of dressing on the salad lends a nice flavor without negating its healthy qualities–and there was so much colorful, fresh produce on the plate, we surprised ourselves by not even wanting the bread.

Beyond their  coffee and other drinks, sandwiches, salads, pastries, and more, Primrose–with its beautiful brownstone setting and understated soundtrack–is a lovely place to relax (or type away!) indoors or out. You can enjoy their offerings from 7am to 6pm Monday through Friday, and 8am to 6pm on weekends.
