Bite Of The Day: Lunch Delivery From Zen Vegetarian House
Any Ditmas Park herbivore will tell you that meat-free options–or to be more specific, meat-free entrees with sufficient protein–are few and far between, as are actual vegan options. Things are looking up since Hartwell Vegetarian moved in, but just before their opening this weekend, we ordered lunch from Zen Vegetarian House at the very Northeast corner of the neighborhood.
At 773 Flatbush between Clarkson Avenue and Lenox Road, it’s not exactly a short stroll for many neighbors, but luckily they deliver. We got the sesame chicken special which comes with a choice of an egg roll or soup ($6.50, served from 12-4pm), as well as an order of scallion pancakes ($3.50) and steamed veggie dumplings ($4). Delivery was quick and friendly, and the food was fantastic.
The seitan “chicken” had a lovely sweetness, the scallion pancakes were dense and chewy, and the dumplings were delicate and fresh. Perhaps our only complaint was the amount of rice next to everything else! We could have used a few more pieces of broccoli instead.
Beyond that, it was delicious, filling, and very reasonably priced–a great option for a sick day at home, or really, any day. To order delivery, call 718-282-2255, or find them on GrubHub or Seamless.
