After Dos Locos, a new Mexican restaurant at 1217 Church Avenue, opened in June, we’ve been wanting to check out the recently debuted spot — and finally got a chance to recently do so for brunch.

The new eatery — which is owned by the same folks behind El Acuario, a Mexican restaurant at the same location that closed in May, as well as a couple new owners — is a huge, airy space that includes a bar (they haven’t started serving alcohol yet, but plan to soon) and at least a dozen tables adorned with brightly colored tablecloths that are situated next to the flood of light coming in through the arched windows.

As for brunch, the menu ranges from chilaquiles (nachos in green or red sauce with pinto beans and two eggs) for $8.95 to a mushroom quesadilla (a 10-inch flour tortilla with cheese, mushrooms, pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole) for $7.95. You can see the entire menu below.

As soon as we sat down, we ordered some much-needed (and very tasty) coffee and then decided to try the Mexican omelette and the huevos rancheros.

At $8.95, the omelette is a steal — it’s a huge, sizzling platter that’s exploding with eggs, beans and cheese, sour cream, and pico de gallo. Plus, there are home fries and two corn tortillas that come with it as well. And while it may not be the healthiest option, it deliciously cures any Sunday morning blues you may have.

As for the huevos rancheros? They’re exactly what you’re looking for — a sprawling cornucopia of eggs, pinto beans, salsa, and tortillas. For both dishes, the huge portioned meals were fresh and tasty and ensured we’ll definitely be going back!

Have you tried Dos Locos yet? What did you think?
