A bike thief was caught on surveillance video entering a gated front yard and cutting the locks off of the wheels of a bicycle parked there, and residents are asking for help in finding the guy.

The suspect is a light-skinned male who appears to be in his late teens to late 20s, and was wearing a dark bubble coat and large backpack of tools. He also carried a large black garbage bag that held the stolen wheels.

The brazen theft took place at 6:12pm on Thursday, December 11, outside a home on South Oxford Street, between Fulton Street and DeKalb Avenue. The suspect is shown casing the area for several minutes, entering the yard to clip the locks off the front wheels, then leaving as pedestrians walked by, returning to clip the back wheel locks, leaving again, and then finally taking the wheels and fleeing.

The owner plans to file a police report with the 88th Precinct but also shared the video with the South Oxford Street Block Association, whose president, Abby Weissman, in turn shared the footage with the public.

Any tips and leads on who this guy is should be sent to the 88th Precinct at 298 Classon Avenue or by phone at 718-636-6626 or 718-636-6511.
