Bike Stolen Last Thursday From Neighbor’s Backyard
Neighbor Ben wrote us to say his Trek Allant WSD bike (frame pictured above, although Ben’s is tea green) was stolen from his fenced backyard this past Thursday, January 2. He says the bicycle had a child’s seat attached to the back, and was stolen during daytime hours near Ditmas and Argyle.
The violation of privacy and loss of a secure feeling in what’s supposed to be one’s haven is a huge concern when theft strikes, literally, close to home–and while you can’t prepare for everything, you can install security measures like cameras, alarms, and motion sensor lights in and outside your home to dissuade would-be robbers.
You may also choose to lock your bike up even inside your yard or garage to prevent loss of property, and even register it with the NYPD so that if it does go missing, it’s easier to track back down.
The 70th Precinct offers free home security assessments as well free bike (and iPhone!) registration and serial number engraving to help keep you, your family, and your property safe. You can take advantage of their programs by calling the Crime Prevention Unit at 718-851-5504.
