Updated: Bicyclist Struck And Killed On Church & Ocean Avenues Monday Morning
Updated 3:45pm: A 57-year-old man was fatally hit by a truck at Church and Ocean Avenues around 10:25am Monday morning, the NYPD said in a statement to the press this afternoon.
According to the police, a box truck was traveling eastbound on Church Avenue when it collided with the bicyclist, who was struck by the truck’s rear tires while also riding eastbound. The victim was transported to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The operator of the truck remained at the scene, and the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation squad is conducting an investigation.
Original post: We have awful news: a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle and killed at Church and Ocean Avenues at about 11am Monday morning, the NYPD told us.
The police said the victim was male but did not have any more information about him, nor did they have details as to how the fatal incident happened. We will update this as soon as we find out any more information.
Following this tragic incident, Church Avenue has been closed from E. 19th Street to Ocean Avenue for police to conduct an investigation.
