Best Soups in Ditmas Park for When You're Under the Weather

Tomato Soup at Qathra, by Jonathan Judge

Whether you’ve caught a cold or the flu, or you’re just looking for something warm and comforting to eat on a dreary day, Ditmas Park’s restaurants have soups for you. Lots and lots of soups.

Here’s a sampling of places that will deliver, and ones that you will have to send some loving friend or family member out to pick up. This is not a comprehensive list, so if you have a favorite soup that’s not listed here, please let us know in the comments.

DELIVERY

Am Thai Bistro, Rice Ginger Soup
1003 Church Ave, 718-287-8888
It’s like your mom’s chicken and rice soup, if your mom were Thai. You can get it with chicken, pork, shrimp, or filet of fish.

Catskill Bagels, Soup of the Day
1416 Cortelyou Rd, 718-282-5049
Neighbor Amy says in the comments that they’re her go-to when she’s home sick: “Their lentil soup and split-pea soup are both vegetarian, and both very tasty. They usually have 4 or 5 soups a day, and so far I’ve liked all of the ones I’ve gotten.”

Cinco de Mayo, Goat Soup
1202 Cortelyou Rd, 718-693-1022
Usually only available on the weekends, but it’s worth the wait.

El Acuario, Pozole
1217 Church Ave, 718-940-4999
A traditional pork broth with hominy, a good option if you’ve had your fill of tortilla soup.

New Bombay Masala, Lentil Soup
1241 Flatbush Ave, 347-985-1132
This vegetarian soup is a hit with Julee, who says: “It’s not good, it’s great. I always get it. It arrives warm, and it’s very satisfying. And order bread with it!”

Sake Sushi, Udon
328 Church Ave, 718-851-5299
Located in Kensington, if you’re in their delivery area and feeling under the weather, their udon noodles come in a nice broth with veggies, chicken, beef, shrimp, or tempura. Comes with hot sauce on the side, to help kick through your congestion.

Soho Cafe and Grill, Soup of the Day
215 Church Ave, 718-436-8800
Also in Kensington, they have a pretty wide delivery area. Soups change daily, and we recently had a good one that was a creamy pinto bean soup — sounds unusual, but it was delicious.

Butternut Squash Soup from Salud
TAKE-OUT

Cafe Tibet, Thukpa
1510 Cortelyou Rd, 718-941-2725
They have a number of satisfying soups, but we love this one with egg noodles, vegetables, and a rich broth (chicken or beef optional). Ask for an extra container of the spicy sauce on the side.

Connecticut Muffin, Soup of the Day
1106 Cortelyou Rd, 718-287-7900
Today’s soups are lentil, Manhattan clam chowder, carrot ginger, and beef barley.

John’s Bakery, Soup of the Day
1322 Cortelyou Rd, 718-287-6799
Today they’ve got the classic: chicken noodle.

Lark, Soup of the Day
1007 Church Avenue, 718-469-0140
Their rotating menu of Hale and Hearty soups today features a Tuscan white bean with spinach.

Mimi’s Hummus, Soup of the Day
1209 Cortelyou Rd, 718-284-4444
Typically they’ve got garlic, which some recommend as an ingredient that keeps colds at bay. Today’s soup is one example: chick pea soup with garlic, rosemary, and thyme.

Qathra, Soup of the Day
1112 Cortelyou Rd, 718-484-3322
“I like the turkey chili, and the lobster bisque was pretty good, but I could have just kept eating the tomato soup!” says neighbor Jonathan Judge, who snapped the pic above. “It was probably the tastiest out of all the soups I’ve had.” Every day they have something different, rotating among 4-5 different soups.

Salud, Aztec Soup
1308 Avenue H, 347-295-1191
Their soup menu rotates (they have butternut squash, pictured above, and a sweet potato/kale soup today), but get this one whenever it’s available. It’s light but will still fill you up, and has just the right amount of spiciness so it will still feel like your taste buds work, even if your cold has knocked them out.
