Bensonhurst Man Caught Stealing Cooking Oil

Two men were arrested on Wednesday, December 19th when they were caught allegedly stealing cooking oil from a restaurant in Connecticut.

Denghui You and Ming Zhi Lu, who hails from Bensonhurst, were spotted at the Bistro Latino at 1392 East Putnam Avenue by an officer on patrol. The officer saw an unmarked truck, which belongs to Lu, parked near the restaurant. When he asked You what he was doing there, he answered that he was there “to take the oil,” according to the Greenwich Patch.

When the owner of Bistro Latin was contacted, he said he had no agreement with the men to take the used cooking oil.

Stealing cooking oil has become a big problem for restaurants and those actually contracted to take the oil and convert it into home heating oil and bio-diesel fuels.

Both men posted bail and are scheduled to appear in court on on December 27th to face charges of sixth degree larceny, trespassing and conspiracy.
