Today, Bensonhurst has lost a mother and a neighbor. Our prayers are with the Orlando family on this sad day.

On the morning of Wednesday, November 9, Antonietta Orlando, 72, was crossing 76th Street, just blocks from her home, when a black Audi took a left turn and hit her.

The driver, a 53-year-old woman, remained on the scene, awaiting the arrival of officers and EMS. First responders took Antonietta to Lutheran Medical Center.

On Sunday, after nearly a month of being in a coma, she succumbed to her injuries, police reported.

According to Antonietta’s Facebook profile, she originally hailed from Serra San Bruno, in southern Italy, attended New Utrecht High School, and was retired.

Last year, she shared a sadly-relevant post on death. “It’s scary to think that one day we’re going to have to live without our mother or father or brother or husband or wife,” the post says, “Appreciate your loved ones while you can, because none of us are going to be here forever.

Rest in peace, Antonietta.
