Belt Parkway East Closed During Nights Next Week

The detour route. Have fun.

Uh-oh.  The eastbound Belt Parkway is going to temporarily close.

Starting at 12:01 a.m. Monday, March 21, the Belt Parkway will fully close between Flatbush Avenue and the Mill Basin Bridge because of an urgent repaving operation by the Department of Transportation.  There will be a local traffic detour during this operation (see map), with assistance on hand.

(Please be advised that earlier notices of this closure published in other outlets noted that the road would be closed as of 11:00 p.m. on the days indicated; the DOT amended the schedule today, and the information here reflects the most up-to-date available.)

As long as mother nature keeps our weather tame and civil, the work is scheduled to finish Saturday, March 26 at 7 a.m.

Overnight Eastbound Lane Closures are as follows:
Weekdays: Monday to Thursday, 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Weekends: Friday to Saturday, 12:01 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Here is a Detour:

  1. Exit Belt Parkway at Flatbush Avenue and travel north to Utica Avenue.
  2. Bear right onto Utica Avenue and proceed to Flatlands Avenue.
  3. Turn right onto Flatlands Avenue and proceed to East 76th Street/Paerdegat Avenue.
  4. Turn right onto East 76th Street/Paerdegat Avenue and proceed to Seaview Avenue.
  5. Bear left onto Seaview Avenue and proceed to Rockaway Parkway.
  6. Turn right onto Rockaway Parkway and proceed to the eastbound entrance to the Belt Parkway.
  7. And there you go, you’re driving on the Belt Parkway again.
