Do You Believe In Magic? Southside Coffee Revamps, Will Reopen With Delicious New Surprises
Just last week we told you that Southside Coffee will be offering “magic” when they reopen. At least that’s what their sign said. Well, we have the details, and they have some pretty great tricks up their sleeve.
Two years ago, Southside Coffee (652 6th Avenue at 19th Street) was named one of the best coffee shops in Brooklyn. But owner Ben Jones doesn’t seem to be kicking back to relax anytime soon — according to a press release, the coffee shop will reopen to start serving breakfast and lunch sandwiches and salads starting on Monday, September 14.
Jones will be joined by new partners Josh Sobel, who was the chef at Mile End Deli and Court Street Grocers, and Daniel Rojo, chef at our own Lot 2 Restaurant, who have both signed on as new partners for this expansion.
Joshua Sidis, who co-founded the cafe with Jones back in 2008, has left the venture to work for Mayor Bill de Blasio as a senior policy advisor, but, according to the release, “intends to visit often for ‘quality control.'”
The menu will feature the “Old School” (a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich); a house-made roast beef sandwich with fennel slaw and a cheddar-horseradish spread; a grilled cheese sandwich with salsa verde and peaches; a salad with summer melon, cucumber, chickpeas, tahini dressing, pickled peppers, and dill; and more.
Now those are some changes.
You can get a sneak peek at the new menu this weekend at Lot 2 (687 6th Avenue at 20th Street) on Sunday, September 13 from 5-10pm.
