Bed-Stuy Man Sentenced in 2015 Ambush Slaying
BED-STUY – A Bed-Stuy man was sentenced today for the killing of a 31-year old man in a ambush attack in 2015, District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced yesterday.
Isaac Bryant, 37, was sentenced to 23 years to life in prison for shooting Jamaal Anderson in the back in the courtyard of Bed-Stuy’s Risley Dent Towers. According to trial testimony, the muder was retaliation for a friend’s shooting days earlier.
Anderson was sitting outside at 1615 Fulton Street on the afternoon of May 27, 2015, when Bryant exited a car holding a handgun and opened fire, according to testimony. Anderson attempted to flee the gunshots but was struck in the back by a bullet and collapsed. The shooter, Bryant, returned to the car and fled.
Anderson was rushed to Interfaith Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said the DA. The investigation recovered surveillance video showing Bryant running towards his victim while shooting a gun, then later returning to his car and fleeing after the ambush.
Bryant was convicted of second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in November 2017 after a jury trial. His sentencing was announced yesterday.
“This defendant carefully planned and executed a cowardly attack on an unsuspecting man,” said District Attorney Gonzalez. “I am committed to continue keeping Brooklyn safe and today’s sentence ensures that this clearly dangerous individual is taken off our streets.”
