Do you like party planning? Would you like to celebrate your community? The organizers of Bayfest, the neighborhood’s waterfront block party that kicks off the start of summer, are looking for volunteers and sponsors to pledge their support as the group ramps up efforts this month to prepare for the big day.

“This is a party for the community. It’s a celebration of Sheepshead Bay,” said Steve Barrison, president of the Bay Improvement Group, the organization behind the event. “We want to celebrate how wonderful this waterfront is and all it has to offer. It’s going to be fun.”

This will be the 25th year the Bay Improvement Group has transformed the waterfront into a lively party for Bayfest. The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 15, from noon to 6pm on Emmons Avenue between East 27th Street and Ocean Avenue.

Bayfest usually draws thousands of people and includes nearly a dozen musicians, kids events, booths for local organizations and more. Last year’s headlining act was the Billy Joel cover band Movin’ Out.

Barrison said volunteers are needed to set up the event and help direct some of the participants to their booths. They are also asking people to recommend local sponsors, who can find out more information about how to get involved at on the event’s webpage.

Neighbors who would like to volunteer to support the 25th Annual Bayfest should contact the Bay Improvment Group at BIGBayFest@gmail.com.
