Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Sunset Park: If Your Water Runs Brown This Is Why

New York City Department of Environmental Protection is doing some maintenance to the drinking water delivery system today and tomorrow (2/2/17) and 2/3/17), which could cause some residents to see brownish water coming out of the tap.

While it is not harmful, residents should not drink obviously discolored water, asks NYCDEP.

Instead, you should report discolored water to 311 (call 311 or fill in this form online) to help engineers pinpoint any problems, and dispatch crews to open hydrants and flush water mains, if necessary, which solves the problem.
