ANTHONY NEGLIA STREET RENAMING DEDICATION

Councilman Domenic M. Recchia Jr., Senator Marty Golden, Et Al. Rename Bay 34th Street and 86th Street As “Anthony Neglia Way”

Councilmember Domenic M. Recchia, Jr. will dedicate a new street, “Anthony Neglia Way,” on Thursday, November 10, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. on Bay 34th Street and 86th Street in Brooklyn.

Anthony Neglia was born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn on August 10, 1927. An active member of his community, Anthony worked on behalf of local businesses in his neighborhood to help establish the 86th Street Community Merchants in an effort to bring new life to a growing shopping district.

He was also the founder of the Bath Beach Kiwanis Club which became the second largest chapter in Brooklyn because of his immense generosity and unyielding efforts.  Throughout his career, Anthony Neglia was also a member of Community Board 11 as well as serving in an active role with the Bensonhurst Board of Trade, the Joint Council of Kings County Board of Trade, and various local retail associations.

“Tony Neglia’s devotion to his community is an inspiration to us all. Today’s street renaming dedication is the most fitting way to ensure that his name and legacy live on.”

Even greater than his passion for business, was Anthony’s passion for helping those in his community. He helped provide scholarships for Bishop Kearney students, organized food drives for the hungry, and managed a financial assistance program that helped those who suffered personal tragedies.

Anthony Neglia and his wife, Antoinette, raised three daughters and one son. He was also an avid golfer.

City Councilman Domenic Recchia represents Council District 47, which includes Coney Island, Brighton Beach, Gravesend, as well as part of Bensonhurst. He also serves as Chairman of the City Council’s Finance Committee
