BATH BEACH – A mother is in critical condition after she was struck by a driver while crossing the street last night.

On Tuesday, October 29 at around 6:30 p.m. a 49-year-old woman was crossing Bay Parkway from the east side to the west side at the crosswalk on Benson Avenue with her son. According to witnesses, they were crossing at the green pedestrian light. At the same time, a 74-year-old man was driving his 2017 white Toyota RAV4. He was making a left turn from westbound Benson Avenue to southbound Bay Parkway. Cops say he struck the woman knocking her to the ground.

The woman was found lying on the roadway with severe head trauma. She was transported to NYU Langone Hospital – Brooklyn and is in critical condition. The driver and the vehicle stayed at the scene. As of now, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

“It’s a tragic thing that happens. People gotta be more careful when they’re driving especially in these kinds of [rainy] conditions,” a neighbor who went by Steven told Loudlabs. He said that though he has never seen anyone injured at the Bay Parkway and Benson Avenue intersection, “You see close encounters often… it was always bound to happen.”
