Get ready for dumplings, ramen and more, neighbors – Bashi Channel, the new Asian fusion restaurant from Ox Cart Tavern’s David Pitula and Jim Mamary, is set to debut at 1120 Cortelyou Road, by Westminster Road, around the end of April!

The restaurant, named for the waterway between the Philippines and Taiwan (the area’s cuisine will be well represented in the new Cortelyou spot), already has its liquor license and is waiting on a couple last-minute things before they can open, including the fire inspection.

So, what can we expect when the grand opening comes? The new venture will be serving up a variety of dumplings, noodles, sandwiches, and salads, with dish prices ranging from about $7 to $13, David told us.

There will be a range of dumplings, including soup, vegetarian, vegan, chicken, and pork options – as well as a dumpling of the week. Dumplings will be priced four for $7, and soup dumplings will be $10.

On the noodle front, David said there’s going to be “a big focus on ramen,” including a dry ramen (soupless ramen with sauce and meat) and ramen with different broths, including roast pork, vegetarian, and chicken/fish. You can also expect to see pad thai on the menu, as well as a special noodle of the week. Ramens are expected to be priced around $13 each.

For sandwiches, there will be a bánh mì sandwich ($9) with Vietnamese sausage, spicy mayo, marinated salad, and more. They’ll also making their own pork and beef hot dogs and will be offering tofu dogs, as well as a brisket bao and seitan bao. The baos will be two for $7.

And onto the salad! Again, there will be a range, including a green papaya one, a seitan chicken and pork option, a cucumber bamboo shitaki seaweed salad, and more. Salads will be priced $8 to $10.

As for its hours, David said they’re planning on staying open late – welcome news for neighbors who are hanging out during the early morning hours at Sycamore next door, or Bar Chord down the street.

The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner, with the kitchen likely being open Wednesday through Saturday until around 2am. If there’s enough support from the community, David said he may expand those hours until 4am.

And, for those of you who want to munch on dumplings without leaving home, David said they’ll be offering delivery.

Many congratulations to David and Jim – we can’t wait to try all of this! And, of course, we’ll let you know the official opening date as soon as it’s set.
