What the plaza looks like now.

Presto Chango!

The CB 12 Transportation Committee will review the city Department of Transportation’s (DOT) application for a new plaza at Avenue C and McDonald Avenue at its meeting this Monday, June 22 at the Amico Senior Citizens’ Center, located at the third floor of 5901 13th Avenue in Boro Park. The meeting will begin at 7pm.

The plaza could be reminiscent of Manhattan’s Union Square, with café tables and chairs, plants, umbrellas, and more.

The DOT’s presentation will include changes proposed by the community at the packed public meeting DOT co-sponsored with Councilman Brad Lander, held April 26 at PS 179, on Cortelyou Road. Once the Transportation Committee has green-lighted it, the plaza goes to the full board for a vote the next evening, Tuesday, June 23.  Again, the meeting will be held at 7pm at the Amico Senior Citizens’ Center.

Those eager to see the new plaza established at Avenue C — including decorated and furnished with café tables and chairs, granite blocks, benches, umbrellas and planters, as DOT has done elsewhere in the city — will want to hightail it over to Amico for the Transportation Committee hearing on Monday, June 22 where they can sign up to speak in its favor. Try and get there 15 minutes early if you wish to speak.

The next day, Tuesday, June 23, the full board will take a vote on whether to move forward on this proposal. Come one evening, or two. Either way your appearance will be most welcome by the Kensington Stewards who have worked with Neighborhood Plaza Partnership and DOT to get this plaza built in time for the summer.
