Back in February, we wrote about a pair of new Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi restaurants “opening soon.”

Now, we’re happy to announce that Kohinoor, a new Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi restaurant at 413 Cortelyou Road, is open for buffet-style South Asian feasting.

Kohinoor is named after a legendary diamond from India that was stolen by the British in 1849, and remains in British custody to this day. But now Cortelyou has its very own gem—a new restaurant from Farrukh Khan, co-owner of Madina.

Khan and his South Indian partner opened Madina together 13 years ago at 563 Coney Island Avenue, and it remains a pillar of traditional Southeast Asian food in the Ditmas Park area.

But Khan saw a gap in the market.

“I opened up Kohinoor because of the growing population of Bangladeshi people in this neighborhood; they usually have to travel all the way to Coney Island Avenue for food,” said Khan.

Along with the traditional dishes, Kohinoor will also serve up unique items from Indian and Chinese cuisines. However, Khan recommends trying the wildly popular Chili Chicken, a dish that is also served at Madina.
