Sustainable Flatbush is joining forces with Sacred Vibes Apothecary for six free summer health and wellness workshops at their Healing Herb Garden (2103 Kenmore Terrace by E 21 St.), starting this Saturday, June 15 from 10:30am-12pm with Herbs from Menstruation to Menopause. The workshops are part of Sustainable Flatbush’s “A Day in the Garden” Open House series.

Sustainable Flatbush’s Sheryll Durrant says of the first event:

A workshop for all ages on health from the beginning of menstruation to menopause. The first half of the class will cover menstrual health and how to chart your cycle and notice the cues your body may give you if your natural balance begins to shift off center. We will discuss medicinal plants that support uterine nourishment and pelvic muscular and skeletal alignment. The second half will explore plants which are hormonally balancing and Qi strengthening. This part of the class will be helpful to those who have or are experiencing PMS, absent or irregular periods, menopause, infertility or breastfeeding.
At the end of the workshop, we will be making our very own herbal oil. Bring a 2 oz. jar with you so you can take some home! We suggest purchasing a cheap jar of baby food and cleaning it out. They are the perfect size!

Other workshops include:

Wednesday, July 17
Medicine Preparation (6:30pm)

Wednesday, July 31
Herbs for Children (6:30pm)

Saturday, August 17

  • Kitchen Herbals (10-11:30am)
  • Community Meal (12-1pm, with Brooklyn Jubilee)
  • Herbs for Elders and Caretaking (1:30-3pm)

Wednesday, August 28
Herbs for Trauma (6:30pm)

Of course, you can always garden with Sustainable Flatbush during their open hours, Tuesday-Friday from 4-6pm and Saturday from 10am-2pm, also at their Healing Herb Garden.
