Attempted Break In On Stratford This Afternoon

With our idyllic surroundings and neighborly feel in Ditmas Park, it’s hard to remember sometimes that we’re still in New York. A neighbor writes to remind us:

I just wanted people to be aware that we had, on the second floor of a house near Stratford and Cortelyou, what sounded like a near break-in today (4/24) around 1:30 PM. I was here with our son, and thankfully, our dog barking immediately stopped the sound of jiggling locks at our front door.
I couldn’t see anyone by the time I went to the peephole, and wasn’t about to go outside to look for someone, so I didn’t call the police, but wanted those in the neighborhood to be aware, since there were similar types of break-ins last year, I think.

The attempted break-ins she refers to occurred in the summer and fall of last year, and a neighbor had a scary experience recently on Rugby as well. So, especially to those living in those beautiful old houses without window bars that would have us believe otherwise, it’s still necessary to stay vigilant in the neighborhood.
