Attempted Break In On Argyle Road Early This Morning

A neighbor on Argyle near Beverley Road had a nerve-wracking but unfortunately familiar experience this morning when her garage alarm was set off around 2am. She says:

Luckily we always set our alarm at night. We have learned from past experience. The alarm must have scared them off quickly.
We called the cops ourselves, the last time the alarm company did it was hours before they showed up. I also used my car keys “panic” button to make the car alarm go off. The cops came within minutes. Nothing was taken. We always chain our bikes inside the garage. As the cops say it takes layers of protection.
Just a reminder that even though summer is winding down bikes are still at a premium and as many people are away keep an eye out for your neighbor.

It’s too bad it has to be a consideration, but between her preparation (turning the alarm on before bed, chaining bikes inside the garage) and quick thinking (setting off her car alarm in addition to the home alarm), she likely kept the situation from becoming worse than it was.

If you’re going out of town, ask your neighbors to check in every once in a while. If you don’t have a security system in your home, consider getting one; and if you do, make sure to put it on even–especially–when you’re inside the house.
